The English to Swedish Translator Project ('15 - '20)
Together with a team of four other Swedish translators I localized software, help files, and marketing material for the Swedish market in a way that is culturally relevant so that the users can feel at home with the software in their own language.
Format
All content was imported into Smartling, a cloud-based, online localization tool providing context, glossaries, and translation memory for consistency.
Challenges
Large content volumes, tight deadlines, and the need to maintain consistency in a team of five Swedish translators. Localizing US cultural references to equivalent expressions that work in Sweden.
Results
Consistent localization of marketing material, software strings, and help files for five years. Thanks to collaboration with other linguists, we were able to provide all updated content on time for new product and service updates for the Swedish market. During this period, Dropbox had a significant growth in market share and revenue in Sweden.
