Time to update your marketing plan for your translation business in 2012

MH900335660 150x150 Time to update your marketing plan for your translation business in 2012The end of the year is approaching and it is time to start planning for 2012. I have done this for my business and can conclude that I have achieved some of my goals and some I am still working on. Here are some practical tips for planning your translation business and marketing for 2012.

First it is time to look back. Check your client database and accounting. Did you achieve your goals, both in the type of customers you want and in the income you want. Did you work too little, too much or just enough? Did you find the clients you wanted? Did you work on the type of projects you wanted to work on? If you are not satisfied with any of these answers, think of things you can do to change this.

Based on this, create a marketing or business plan for the coming year. Here are some content that should be included in your marketing plan.

  • Main objective
  • Definition of the products or services you want to offer
  • Definition of your target market
  • Definition of your competition
  • Definition of your customers
  • Definition of your Unique Selling Points – what makes you unique and why would the customers want to choose you.
  • Action plan – break this down in annual, monthly and specific actions

I use my own template for this planning. It is only one page and works well for me. I share this template in my webinar “Creating a one page marketing plan for your freelance translation business”, which is still available online at Proz.com.

With that I would like to wish you all Happy Holidays and all the best for 2012.
