Your article is useful, thanks. When I edit and revise a translation before delivering it first I align source and target texts and read through them comparing. Then I read the target text aloud to myself. Then I run spellcheck. Then I re-read for general formatting. Very time consuming, but I usually catch at least one problem in the last phase.

Great list! I know what I do to make my translations good by my own standards, but it’s always nice to know how others will evaluate them. It’s nice that most of these points are relatively objective, too. There are so many choices in creating a translation that can be subjective—a translator being a writer, after all.

Dear Tess,
Thanks you for your post, After having my business attacked and hijacked on eBay one too many times, I’m looking to open another store, off of eBay. I have a large website already, but adding each item, one by one along with the PayPal codes for each item as well as a shopping cart link to each individually is a VERY daunting task, so I’m hoping to simplify that without spending a fortune…so, are any of the free eCommerce sites decent? I’m finding no reliable information through my searches, so if anyone here has an opinion…

Personally I do not take tests. I simply point out that I have over 30 years of experience, that they can confirm through my Proz or other translation site pages that I have been around for decades, and that my customers have left good feedback about me. That should be enough for any reasonable customer. But then, I do not need the money so much as to have to perform tests, I have a good customer base…
